Sonapur: In a recent operation led by Addl. SP (HQ), Kamrup, Kalyan Kumar Pathak, the Assam police apprehended an individual and seized a significant quantity of illegal heroin valued at Rs.16 crore from a vehicle on the outskirts of Guwahati city. The operation was initiated to investigate a potential drug transaction. The suspect’s Honda City Car, in which the drugs were believed to be present, was intercepted at Sonapur Tollgate. In an attempt to flee, the peddler engaged in a chase, resulting in the police firing a warning shot. Eventually, the Honda City vehicle was intercepted, leading to the discovery of 145 soap boxes containing multiple packets of heroin weighing approximately 2kg. The arrested individual, identified as Mafizul Haque (34), was charged under the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to uncover any further connections. The estimated market value of the confiscated heroin is reported to be Rs.16 crore.
