Kurnool: District Collector Dr. G. Srujana has instructed officials to conduct extensive awareness programs aimed at sensitizing the community about drug control efforts in Kurnool district. During a meeting chaired by the District Collector at the collectorate mini conference hall, she emphasized the need for initiatives such as distributing pamphlets, putting up posters, and organizing rallies to deter students from both schools and colleges from engaging with intoxicants. The Collector also stressed the importance of displaying posters in educational institutions and village ward secretariats to raise awareness among the wider population. Furthermore, she proposed a large-scale awareness campaign involving various authorities like Municipal Commissioners, Mandal Development Officers, representatives from educational institutions, and officials from departments including Excise, Health, and Police, to educate about the health risks and societal impact of substance abuse.
The Collector also directed officials to ensure strict enforcement measures. In response to concerns raised by women police regarding drug issues in C-Belagal Mandal Buran Doddi-2, regular inspections are being conducted by a team comprising the Municipal Commissioner, Mandal Development Officer, police personnel, and women police every 15 days at schools, colleges, and other relevant locations. The District SP, Krishna Kant, reported conducting patrols in areas frequented by laborers, such as deserted spaces, abandoned buildings, bus stands, and railway stations, leading to the registration of 13 cases and the seizure of 54 kg of ganja.
He mentioned that the confiscated ganja would be disposed of upon receiving government orders. Sub Collector Abhishek Kumar from Adoni and Pathikonda RDO Neelapu Ramalakshmi participated in the meeting via video conference. Other attendees included SEB Additional SP Krishnakant Patel, District Transport Commissioner Sridhar, DEO Ranga Reddy, DFO Palle Sivashankar Reddy, Kurnool RDO Hariprasad, officials from Agriculture, Social Welfare, Excise, Deputy Commissioner of Labour, medical officers, and drug control officers.
