Delhi: A 33-year-old man, Shriyansh Kumar, allegedly fatally stabbed his wife, Kamlesh Holkar (30), and her minor brother, Ram Pratap Singh (17), with a screwdriver in Shakarpur, East Delhi, on Wednesday morning. After committing the murders, Kumar fled the scene but returned a few hours later and surrendered to investigators, according to police officers.
Police revealed that Kumar attacked his wife first and then her brother when he walked in during the attack. The investigation is exploring whether Kumar’s family had any involvement in the murders. The victims’ family claims Kumar often tortured Holkar for dowry. The couple had a two-year-old son.
Officers noted that Kumar had lost his job and was dealing with frustration and irritability. He suspected his wife of infidelity, although his family claimed he had mental health issues. However, no medical records have been found to support this claim, though he was behaving oddly in custody.
The police control room received a call at 10:11 am from an anonymous source reporting a disturbance in the Shakarpur area, resulting in injuries. When officers arrived at the two-story house, they found the victims’ bodies on the second floor, covered in blood.
Holkar’s body was found in the bedroom, while Singh’s was discovered in another room. Both had multiple wounds and had lost significant amounts of blood. The exact sequence of events is still being determined.
Holkar’s father-in-law, aged 62, made the initial call to the police. The murder weapon, a screwdriver, was found at the scene and sent for forensic analysis.
The investigation lasted about two hours, during which the bodies were taken to the Sabzi Mandi mortuary for autopsy. Officers also questioned Kumar’s family, who mentioned that the couple and their son lived on the second floor while other family members resided on the first floor.
The investigation took an unexpected turn when Kumar returned to the crime scene around noon and confessed to the murders. He was apprehended and subsequently arrested.
Holkar’s cousin, Gobind Baghel, said Kumar had fought with Holkar on Tuesday and left the house. Baghel accused Kumar’s family of frequently taunting Holkar for not providing enough dowry.
