Thoothukudi: Thoothukudi’s District Superintendent of Police, Dr. L. Balaji Saravanan, refuted the announcement. In a recent press report, it was stated that out of the six recent murders in Tuticorin district, four were linked to alcohol and ganja influence, while only two were due to familial issues. This report has instilled fear among the populace, as the frequency of these killings has made people apprehensive about venturing out at night. Investigations have uncovered that the murders within the jurisdictions of Tuticorin District, Muttiahpuram, and Tenbhagam Police Stations were primarily due to marital suspicions and property disputes. Furthermore, the recent murder of drug shop owner Senthil Arumugam was revealed to be a result of a familial property dispute. Additionally, two murders under Kovilpatti West Police Station’s purview stemmed from sudden outbursts among close acquaintances, while a dispute over borrowed money led to another murder under Madhyabhagam Police Station’s jurisdiction. All perpetrators involved in these incidents have been promptly apprehended and incarcerated. This year, 52 individuals have been imprisoned under the Gangster Prevention Act, with chargesheets swiftly being filed against those involved in the murders. Among the six incidents mentioned, one involved familial conflict between a father and son, two were related to marital disputes, and one was perpetrated by a family member over property matters. The remaining two murders resulted from sudden disagreements between close friends. Hence, the assertion that these incidents were influenced by ganja is categorically dismissed. It is strongly advised against disseminating unverified and exaggerated information that may incite public fear.
