Thrissur City: In Thrissur City, the police apprehended the lorry driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in a pedestrian’s death. The arrest was made by Mannuthi police station inspector Mr. Sajeesh A.K., along with civil police officers Mr. Jaino and Mr. Ramkumar, a few days after the incident, which occurred on June 8, 2024, at 7:50 PM.
The Mannuthi police station received a report about a person injured in a car accident on the Mannuthi Palakkad National Highway cut, within their jurisdiction. The police promptly arrived at the scene, and the injured man was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he was declared dead by the doctor. Upon arrival, the police found no trace of the vehicle involved, which had fled the scene.
Initial investigations suggested that the vehicle did not stop after the collision. Due to heavy rain at the time, identifying the vehicle’s registration number or other details was challenging. However, a video obtained in the first few days showed a container lorry stopping about 20 meters from the incident site before driving towards Palakkad.
The police conducted a daily search by identifying and monitoring vehicles, eventually reaching the Palliekkara toll plaza. They discovered that around 50 similar-looking courier service vehicles had passed through the toll plaza cameras. Filtering through these vehicles, they identified the hit-and-run vehicle as a lorry with Karnataka registration. Further investigation revealed that the lorry was being used by an agency in Tamil Nadu, leading to the driver and vehicle being taken into custody.
