Srikakulam: Srikakulam District Collector, Mr. Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar, IAS, has issued a directive emphasizing the critical need for industries within the district to strictly enforce and comply with established safety standards. He underscored the responsibility of employers to ensure that their workers are thoroughly educated and trained on workplace safety protocols. The Collector stressed that such training is not just a formality but a necessity, aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of every individual working in these industries. He further clarified that this comprehensive safety training must be completed by all industries within the next two weeks, highlighting the urgency and importance of this initiative.
To discuss the implementation of these safety measures, a detailed meeting was convened on Saturday evening at the meeting hall of the Collector’s office. The session was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from large and medium-scale industries operating in the district. District Superintendent of Police, Mr. K.V. Maheswara Reddy, IPS, was present, reflecting the importance of a collaborative approach to industry safety, which also involves law enforcement to ensure compliance.
The meeting was also attended by Joint Collector Farman Ahmed, who provided insights into the administrative aspects of the safety protocols. District Industries Center General Manager, Mr. Uma Maheswara Rao, contributed by discussing the industrial implications and the role of the Industries Center in facilitating the training. AD Ramana Rao, District Fire Department Officer Mohana Rao, and Environment Department Engineer Rama Rao Naidu were also present, each bringing their expertise to address specific safety concerns related to fire hazards and environmental impact.
Notably, representatives from major pharmaceutical companies like Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Aurobindo Pharma were in attendance, alongside other industry leaders. Their presence signified the critical importance of these discussions, given the large workforce employed in these industries and the potential risks involved in their operations.
The Collector’s directive is a proactive step to ensure that industrial safety is prioritized across the district, reducing the likelihood of workplace accidents and ensuring that the health of the workers is not compromised.
