Andhra Praesh, Srikakulam: During the investigation of  case under Section 303(2) of the BNS Act, registered at JR Puram Police Station, Srikakulam District, authorities arrested suspects involved in a series of transformer thefts. In connection with 33 cases, 53 individuals accused of transformer thefts across Sigadam and Paraguru Police Station areas were apprehended, with case property including 636 kg of copper wire, various components, and 5 kg of aluminum wire fully recovered. District SP Sri KV Maheshwara Reddy, IPS, shared these updates during a press conference at the District Police Office on Sunday.

On November 11, 2024 the incident occurred and unidentified thieves dismantled a 3-phase 16 KVA transformer in an agricultural field belonging to Kella Venkata Ramana in Mahantipalem village, Ranastalam Mandal, stealing approximately 12 kg of copper wire.

Law enforcement authorities recovered copper wire (350 kg), copper heads (286 kg), and aluminum wire (5 kg) from the 53 transformers linked to 33 theft cases in Srikakulam District.

The accused were identified as Kuppili Vara Prasad, 23, Bora Sai, 19, Balaga Ramakrishna, 35, Balaga Shiva, 30, Budumuru Govind, 24, Sadi Satyam, 20, Duvu Asiri Naidu, 30 all of Srikakulam, Krishna Reddy of Visakhapatnam, and 2 Juveniles of Srikakulam.

Arrest Details: On 10.11.2024, seven adults and two juveniles were arrested near Ranastalam Mandal, opposite a beer factory. The investigation revealed that Kuppili Varaprasad, aiming to support his addictions through illegal earnings, used his electrical expertise to steal transformer wire. He recruited youths from neighboring villages for assistance. The stolen goods were reportedly sold to his relative, Duvu Asirinaidu, in Vizag, who helped him benefit from the proceeds.

Commendation for the Team: Under the guidance of the Srikakulam Superintendent of Police and the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer H. Vivekananda, a dedicated team skillfully utilized technology and investigative techniques to apprehend the accused. The District SP commended the team for their diligence.
