KOCHI: The Palarivattom police here on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old woman and her friend for allegedly cheating youth by promising them jobs at a fashion design institute abroad through Facebook. According to the police, Krishnendu, a native of Kunnamkulam in Thrissur, and Jinson, 27, from Puthukad in the same district, committed fraud to the amount of ₹45 lakh. The duo cheated at least 83 job aspirants, Police said. “The main accused, who herself is working in the fashion design field, committed the fraud by seeking salesmen through a Facebook post for a fashion design store in the Gulf. Most victims had doled out ₹53,000 each in the hope of getting employment,” the police said. Acting on a complaint filed by a native of Vennala here, the cops arrested the duo. Investigations revealed that they had used the money to lead a luxurious life. “We received more complaints within hours of the news of their arrest had spread. Also, further probe revealed that similar complaints had been registered against them at other police stations too,” the police said. The cops are probing whether the duo are part of a job fraud racket based in Gulf. They will be produced before court later.
