Wayanad, Kerala, November 9, 2025: The week-long Wayanad District Police Sports Meet concluded with great enthusiasm at the M.K. Jinachandran Memorial District Stadium, Maravayal, with the final athletic events held on Sunday.
The Mananthavady Sub-Division emerged as the Overall Champions, securing 98 points, followed by Kalpetta Sub-Division with 91 points and Bathery Sub-Division with 74 points. District Headquarters (DHQ) scored 53 points, while the Special Unit secured 33 points.
In the individual events,
* Men’s Open Category Champions: P. Jayaprakash (Kalpetta Sub-Division) and K.D. Ramson (Bathery Sub-Division)
* Women’s Open Category Champions: Saida (Kalpetta Sub-Division) and Thulasi (Bathery Sub-Division)
* Veterans Category Champions: P. Harris (Special Unit) and Sheeja (Bathery Sub-Division)
In team events, Mananthavady Sub-Division won the tug-of-war and volleyball tournaments, while DHQ claimed victory in the cricket and football tournaments. Rashid (Mananthavady Sub-Division) and the pair Sajeevan–Nethil (Special Unit) won the badminton singles and doubles titles respectively.
The closing ceremony, held on the evening of November 9, 2025, was inaugurated by District Collector D.R. Meghasree, IAS. Prizes and trophies were distributed jointly by District Collector D.R. Meghasree, IAS, District Police Chief Taposh Basumathari, IPS, and Wildlife Warden Varun Dalia, IFS.
The event was attended by Additional SP N.R. Jayaraj, DySPs K.J. Johnson (DCRB), Abdul Karim (Special Branch), P.L. Shyju (Kalpetta), K.K. Abdul Sharif (Bathery), V.K. Vishwambharan (Mananthavady), Augustine (SMS), K.G. Praveen Kumar (District Crime Branch), Inspectors from various police stations, officers, and members of the sports organizing committee including K.M. Sasidharan, Bipin Sunny, and Irshad Mubarak.
The District Police Chief congratulated all participants and appreciated the organizing team for their dedicated efforts in making the event a success, emphasizing that sports foster team spirit, discipline, and camaraderie among police personnel.
