Wayanad, Kerala: In a remarkable display of public participation, the Wayanad District Police organized a massive anti-drug awareness rally under “Operation Toofan” to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse, drawing nearly 1,000 participants from all sections of society.
The colourful rally, held in Kalpetta, brought together children, students, youth, police personnel, government officials, teachers, and members of socio-political and cultural organizations in a united stand against drug abuse. The rally was flagged off by Indian cricketer Sajana Sajeevan, actor Abu Saleem, and District Panchayat President Chandrika Krishnan.
Beginning at the New Bus Stand, the rally passed through the town before concluding at the same venue, where the closing ceremony was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister T. Siddique. Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasized that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility of both the police and the public, stressing that defeating the drug menace is essential to protecting families and society.
District Police Chief T. Devamahar, IPS, delivered a strong anti-drug message and distributed “Toofan Warriors” badges to participants. He highlighted that Operation Toofan is receiving widespread public support and called upon every citizen to actively contribute to the mission of creating a drug-free society.
The programme was attended by Additional SP K. S. Shaji, DySPs K. K. Abdul Sharif, Ashraf Tengalakandiyil, K. C. Chacko, Kalpetta Police Inspector T. P. Dinesh, elected representatives, officials from the Women and Child Development Department, school teachers, SPC cadets, NCC, Scouts and Guides, and numerous members of the public.
The overwhelming response to the rally reflects the growing partnership between the police and the community in combating drug abuse. Through awareness, public participation, and coordinated action, Operation Toofan continues to strengthen the movement towards a healthier, safer, and drug-free Wayanad.
