Belagavi, Karnataka: Camp Police Station successfully solved a major gold theft case involving ornaments worth over ₹73 lakh and arrested two accused within a short period through a meticulous investigation.
Addressing a press conference, Bhushan Borase stated that the arrested accused were Rahul Kamble and Babasaheb Katageri. Rahul Kamble had been entrusted by the family members of an elderly man, Vishwanath, to regularly check on his health and provide assistance. During his visits, he allegedly gathered information about the gold ornaments kept in the house and identified the location of the safe.
According to the investigation, Rahul allegedly stole the ornaments gradually over a period of nearly three months to avoid raising suspicion. The probe revealed that approximately 930 grams of gold ornaments, valued at around ₹73.30 lakh, had been stolen from the residence.
Police further discovered that the stolen ornaments had been pledged through co-accused Babasaheb Katageri at Muthoot Finance. Acting on technical evidence and specific leads, the Camp Police Station team traced and arrested both accused and recovered the stolen gold ornaments.
The Police Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the investigating officers and staff for solving the case swiftly and announced that suitable rewards and commendations would be given to the personnel involved in the successful operation.
Senior officers, including DCPs Narayan Baramani and Niranjan Raje Aras, were present during the briefing.
