Udupi, Karnataka: In a prompt execution of a court warrant, the police arrested an accused who failed to comply with the orders of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Udupi, and produced him before the Commission, ensuring the enforcement of judicial orders.
The case originated from Consumer Complaint No. 76/2023, filed by decree holder Santosh Pai against Amrit Shenoy before the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Udupi. The Commission had directed the respondent to register House No. 304 in Vigar Apartment in favour of the complainant or, alternatively, pay ₹27.20 lakh with 9% interest. Despite the order, the respondent failed to comply.
Subsequently, the complainant-initiated Execution Case No. 31/2024. After examining the matter, the Hon’ble Commission found that the respondent had wilfulldisobeyed its order, constituting an offence under Section 72 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
On 24 June 2026, the Commission sentenced the accused to three years’ simple imprisonment, imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000, and ordered an additional six months’ simple imprisonment in default of payment of the fine. The Commission also issued an arrest warrant directing the police to produce the accused before it.
Acting swiftly on the warrant, the police apprehended Amrit Shenoy and produced him before the Hon’ble Commission on 25 June 2026. The Commission subsequently remanded the accused to judicial custody, following which he was lodged in Hiriyadka Jail.
The successful execution of the court warrant demonstrates the police department’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring compliance with judicial orders. The action reinforces public confidence that deliberate disobedience of court directives will invite strict legal consequences.
