Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the ‘Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ awareness campaign has undertaken the task of awakening society today as part of social responsibility. Under the leadership of the illustrious Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Madhya Pradesh has eradicated Naxalism ahead of the deadline; the state has now bid a final farewell to ‘Lal Salaam’ (Red Salute). The state government stands firmly with the police department regarding promotions and all commendable work. Any form of substance abuse destroys both the individual and society; there are various challenges related to drug abuse in the current era. Moving towards a drug-free Madhya Pradesh, our government has implemented a ban on drugs and alcohol in the vicinity of 19 religious sites. Religious and social organizations are also playing a pivotal role in the drug de-addiction campaign. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav administered a pledge to create a drug-free Madhya Pradesh and to abstain from drug use. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was addressing the inaugural ceremony held at Ravindra Bhavan on the eve of the ‘Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0’ campaign launch. He remarked that it used to be said that if one wanted to ruin a person, one should get them addicted to drugs, and the entire family would inevitably be destroyed. The state government is taking stringent measures against all forms of substance abuse; however, social awareness is also essential. The state police department is capable of taking action against organized gangs involved in the illicit drug trade, and the state government is coordinating effectively with neighboring states. Union Home Minister Shri Shah has set a goal to make India drug-free by 2029. In this context, the Madhya Pradesh Police is encouraging the younger generation to shun drugs through awareness programs in schools and colleges, as well as through helplines and counseling services. Efforts to rehabilitate individuals addicted to drugs are also proceeding rapidly. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that substance abuse destroys society in every way; therefore, one must abandon leniency and deal firmly with the illegal drug trade. Action against drug abuse should be so decisive that it sets a precedent. The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy regarding substance abuse, and courses on de-addiction have been introduced in schools and colleges. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav administered a pledge to the citizens present at the event to create a drug-free Madhya Pradesh. He also expressed condolences on the passing of Director General of Police Shri Kailash Makwana’s mother, stating that everyone stands with Shri Makwana’s family during this time of grief.
Appreciation for Inter-departmental Coordination
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav commended the coordination among various departments in making the anti-drug campaign a success. While the Social Justice Department produced publicity materials such as T-shirts, banners, and badges, the Police Department conducted special programs for youth de-addiction as part of community safety initiatives. In collaboration with the Higher Education Department, a four-credit course covering de-addiction, mental health, and related topics was launched. This initiative will inspire youth to become responsible citizens, stay free from drugs, and cultivate a sense of social security. Additionally, the police, in partnership with the School Education Department, organized training programs and public safety dialogues to inspire school students to become good citizens and published booklets related to safety. Speaking at the event, Shri Narayan Singh Kushwaha, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, stated that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has pledged to make India drug-free. The Department of Social Justice is working towards this very objective. The Madhya Pradesh Police’s campaign last year achieved unprecedented success; awareness programs were organized in schools and colleges by engaging all sections of society. Substance abuse is the root of destruction; it ruins entire families. The drug de-addiction campaign in Madhya Pradesh will also be successfully completed. The Department of Social Justice is advancing the public awareness campaign in collaboration with the police. Special Director General of Police Shri Pankaj Kumar Srivastava announced that the ‘Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0′ (Staying Away from Drugs is Essential 2.0) awareness campaign will be conducted across the state from July 15 to July 30. This campaign will raise public awareness through the NCC, NSS, sports and trade associations, and citizens’ committees. The previous campaign secured a place in the World Book of Records, and this initiative by the Madhya Pradesh Police also received appreciation in the British Parliament. Globally, over 330 million people suffer from drug addiction; of these, more than 250 million are victims of cannabis use, and over 60 million are affected by opium-based narcotics. The rise in drug production in Eastern nations is a cause for concern. The Madhya Pradesh Police is taking effective and stringent action against organized gangs and those involved in the sale of MD drugs and other narcotics. Additional Director General of Police Shri D. Srinivas Verma (Narcotics) expressed his gratitude. The event was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri Sanjay Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Shri Anupam Rajan, Principal Secretary Smt. Sonali Wayangankar, Principal Secretary (Social Justice Department) Smt. Sonali Ponkshe Wayangankar, members and heads of religious organizations, and a large number of police department officers and personnel. The program began with the singing of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’. The guests were welcomed and presented with mementos.
