Dindigul, Tamil Nadu: Veluchamy and his wife Kalaiselvi (45) hailed from Arasupillaipatti near Oddanchatram in Dindigul district. Due to family disputes, Kalaiselvi had been living with her children at the home of her father, Karuppanagounder. In 2019, a quarrel broke out between Veluchamy and Kalaiselvi. When Kalaiselvi’s father, Karuppanagounder, intervened to question him, Veluchamy stabbed him to death; the Oddanchatram police subsequently arrested and imprisoned Veluchamy. The case was being heard at the Palani Additional District Court, and today, the judge delivered a verdict sentencing the accused, Veluchamy, to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹32,000.
