Kalaburagi, Karnataka: In a significant action against the illegal transportation of government-distributed food grains, police seized 148 quintals of Anna Bhagya rice valued at approximately ₹5.5 lakh near Chaudapura village in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district.
Acting on a specific tip-off, the police conducted an operation and intercepted a truck allegedly transporting the rice illegally towards Maharashtra via the Devala–Ganagapura route.
During the operation, officers seized the truck along with the entire consignment of rice. The seizure is part of efforts to prevent the diversion and unauthorised transportation of food grains supplied under the Karnataka government’s Anna Bhagya welfare scheme.
Following the operation, a case was registered at Ganagapura Police Station, and further investigation is underway to establish the source of the rice, identify those responsible and determine the circumstances surrounding its transportation.
The action highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt police response in preventing the illegal diversion of subsidised food grains intended to support eligible beneficiaries.
