Almora: SSP Almora District, Mr. Ramchandra Rajguru IPS, a dedicated person for the physical and mental well-being of Almora Police personnel, consistently takes proactive measures to ensure their health and motivation. Through periodic conferences, he educates and encourages officers on the importance of activities such as running, PT, and yoga. In a collaborative effort with the officers of the Indian Army’s 22 Rajput stationed in the district, SSP Almora recently orchestrated a unique initiative to enhance the fitness levels of both police and army personnel.
This novel approach materialized in the form of a Mantri Cricket Match, a distinctive event aimed at fostering camaraderie and promoting physical fitness. The match, held at the prestigious Army Ground in Almora on December 10, 2023, showcased the participation of Almora Police personnel and 22 Rajput Army soldiers. SSP Almora, leading by example, actively engaged in the match, taking to the field as the opening batsman and exhibiting commendable batting skills that resonated with the spirit of the initiative.
The Almora Police team, batting first, demonstrated exceptional prowess, amassing a total of 128 runs within the stipulated overs. Notably, Constable Prithviraj Singh emerged as the highest scorer, contributing a remarkable 89 runs to the team’s total. Setting a challenging target of 129 runs, Almora Police handed over the batting responsibility to the 22 Rajput Army team.
In a riveting contest that unfolded over 16-16 overs, the 22 Rajput Army team, led by their captain, clinched victory with 2 wickets to spare in the 15th over. The match witnessed a stellar performance from Inspector Irfan Khan of Almora Police, who excelled in bowling, securing 4 crucial wickets.
As the match concluded, SSP Almora took the opportunity to commend the sportsmanship displayed by both teams, offering words of encouragement and appreciation. The subsequent prize distribution ceremony, graced by Chief Guest Mr. Vineet Tomar, District Magistrate Almora, added a touch of prestige to the event. Mr. Tomar distributed prizes to the outstanding players from both the Almora Police and 22 Rajput Army teams, emphasizing the significance of such collaborative initiatives in fostering a healthy spirit of competition and camaraderie.
