Bengaluru: The Koramangala police have arrested the principal and two teachers of a school in Koramangala in connection with the assault on a student aged 13.
The mother of the student filed a case with the police stating that her son was assaulted and her daughter was threatened with sexual assault if a police complaint was made against the school authorities.
The police said the mother of the son received a call from the PT school teacher stating that his son had met with an accident. On reaching the school she found that her son was injured in the head and was bleeding profusely.
When asked about the cause of the incident to the principle as the student was in her office the principal said that he had fallen in the PT class. But the son said that the maths teacher had hit him with a duster on his head. The mother took her son to a private hospital as he was bleeding badly. His wound was stitched.
The police said, on December 17, on the day the mother kept her son at home the next day without sending him to school. The principle and another teacher called up the house of the boy and requested them not to give a police complaint and attempted to bribe his parents by telling them that they offered to waive the remaining school fees, and also offered her money.
The sister of the student was also enrolled in the same school and she was threatened with sexual assault if her parents will approach the police. She became scared and came home and reported the matter to her mother. On hearing this the mother, unable to tolerate the torture given by the school authorities approached the Koramangala police on Wednesday and registered a complaint. In her statement, the mother said that they even petitioned her neighbor to argue their case,” said the police
Based on the complaint the Koramangala Police registered a case against the principle and staff charging them under various sections of the Juvenile Justice Act(Care and Protection of children), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POSCO) Act and for criminal intimidation.
Later, they arrested principal Shaji Sebastian, math teacher Reshma and the class teacher Mathew. “We booked them under POSCO Act too, as Mathew threatened to sexually assault the boy’s sister,” said the police. The trio has been remanded in judicial custody.
