Lucknow: In Lucknow, a pregnant woman named Rachna Devi, who had been two months into her pregnancy and worked as a stenographer in the sales tax department, was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at her rented accommodation near the Para police station on Sunday, with authorities suspecting her death may be related to dowry issues. Allegations have been made against her in-laws, who are reportedly absconding. Rachna had married Devesh of Bangarmau, in Unnao, only last December. Her brother, Akas Kumar, claimed that Rachna’s husband and in-laws had murdered her due to their demand for more dowry. The body has been sent for autopsy, and an investigation is ongoing.
Akas stated that Devesh was involved in trading sand and other construction materials and that their family had already provided Rs.10 lakh, a four-wheeler, and other valuable items as gifts to Devesh upon his parents’ request. Akas alleged that Rachna was residing in Hans Khera in Para, where Devesh’s relatives subjected her to torture to extort more gifts. He further claimed that they deprived her of food despite her pregnancy and ultimately suffocated her to death on Sunday. Police have registered a dowry death case against the family, with those named in the FIR being Devesh’s elder brother Murari and his wife Diksha, Devesh’s sister Pragati and her husband Himanshu Katiyar, and Devesh’s parents.
