A senior police officer said on Friday that the Assam police have registered a case against Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain for allegedly raping and threatening a 24-year old married woman in Nagaon district. Ms. Sabita Das, Nagaon Deputy Superintendent of Police (headquarters) said that after receiving a complaint at Nagaon police station, the case was filed against Gohain on 2 August . She said that they have already begun the investigation and we will proceed as per the law. Gohain's Officer on special duty, Sanjiv Goswami said when contacted that he has also filed complaints against the woman and her family for blackmailing and claimed that the case against the minister has been withdrawn. Nagaon Police Station Officer-in-charge, Ananta Das said that the case is still open and they will do their own investigation though the woman had pleaded to withdraw the case in the court. A Nagaon police station senior official said that the case was registered last week bearing the number 2592/18. He added that the woman refused a medical examination. They are investigating and have already noted the lady's statement. The FIR was registered under IPC sections 417 (cheating), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The official said that according to the complaint, the alleged incident took place seven to eight months ago and that the Union minister used to visit the woman's home. Both Gohain and the woman knew each other for a long time. He said that the crime was committed by Gohain at the woman's home in the absence of her her husband and other family members. The police official said that they are probing now and arrest will happen only after the probe is complete.
