Ranga Reddy, Telangana: The Attapur Police apprehended one habitual offender involved in an attention diversion chain-snatching case and recovered four stolen gold chains from his possession. Three associates involved in the offence are absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The arrested accused has been identified as Hathakade Vishal (25), Band Master, resident of Mangar Basthi, Afzal Sagar, Mallepally, Hyderabad. The absconding accused are Ravi, Jahangir, and Shyam Sunder.
The accused persons formed an organized gang and targeted unsuspecting commuters at bus stops by diverting their attention before stealing gold chains. In one such incident, which occurred on 16.10.2025 at Aramghar Bus Stand, they surrounded a commuter while he was alighting from a bus. While some members obstructed and distracted the victim, the main accused stealthily removed the victim’s gold chain before the gang fled from the scene.
During investigation, the police arrested Hathakade Vishal and recovered four stolen gold chains weighing approximately 29.7 grams in total, linked to four property offence cases registered at Attapur Police Station. The remaining accused are absconding, and further investigation is in progress.
The case has been registered under Sections 318(4), 305(a) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The arrest was made under the supervision of Sri S. Sreenivas, IPS, DCP, Rajendranagar Zone, Sri T. Srinivas, ACP, Rajendranagar Division, Sri K. Nageswara Rao, SHO, Attapur Police Station, and Sri B. Raju Naik, Detective Inspector, along with the staff of Attapur Police Station. The officers and staff involved in the successful detection of the case will be suitably rewarded.
