Rayagada: A man in connection with sorcery violence in Odisha was apprehended by Kalyansinghpur police on Sunday. According to police, in spite of the strict warnings, Sorcery-related incidents have claimed more lives in remote villages of Rayagad district. Odisha is one of the well-known states among the Eastern states of India for sorcery violence. Despite the implementation of the Orissa Prevention of Witch-Hunting, Act, 2013, that entails penalty and punishment for practicing and abetting sorcery, as many as 20 persons have been killed in the district during the period. Earlier, in 2014, a man from Bheja village was allegedly beaten up by some of the villagers on suspicion of practicing sorcery. The name of the suspected was Bhimarao Attaka who was thrashed by the villagers and as a result of which he died said the police source. And his body was sacked and discarded into the Nagavali River. Likewise, a man was killed by the villagers on suspicion of sorcery in 2017. Therefore, police had been on high alert to arrest those persons related to the sorcery violence. Yesterday, police arrested a man in connection with the sorcery violence and the total number of arrests has gone up to seven. Still, nine more suspected members are yet to be apprehended. ]]>
