Udupi, Karnataka: An 11-year-old boy from West Bengal, who was found alone at Udupi railway station, has been in the custody of Kunjibettu Boys’ Home in Udupi since January 2026 due to the lack of information about the name and address of his parents. On the verbal order of the Superintendent of Police, Udupi District, with the cooperation of the Superintendent of Udupi Child Welfare Committee and the officers of Gangarampura Police Station, Dakshina Dinajpur District, West Bengal, Sampa Shetty, a female police officer of Karkala City Police Station, got information that the boy’s mother, Sadhana Mandal, is currently in Titwala in Kalyan District, Maharashtra, and contacted her and informed her about the boy’s whereabouts. The boy’s parents appeared before the Udupi Child Welfare Committee on 30/07/2026, gave appropriate documentation, and took the boy with them. The Superintendent of Police has openly praised the efficiency of Sampa Shetty, a female police officer at the Karkala City Police Station.
