Andhra Pradesh, Tirupati: The Red Sandalwood Police conducted a surprise raid in the forest area near Reppalathippa in Nagalapuram Mandal, Tirupati District, resulting in significant arrests and seizures.
Three red sandalwood smugglers and five laborers were apprehended, and 69 red sandalwood logs, weighing 479 kg and valued at approximately Rs.20 lakhs, along with a motorcycle, were confiscated.
According to the in-charge Task Force District SP, L. Subbarayudu, IPS, the operation was carried out under the supervision of Red Sandalwood Task Force SP P. Srinivas. The raid took place on the night of December 23, 2024, in the forest area of Reppalathippa. Those arrested include Surendra from K.V. Puram, Munivelu from Nagalapuram, Mestri Selvaraji Thorai Swamy from Salem district, Tamil Nadu, and five Tamil laborers. Efforts are underway to track and apprehend the main smugglers involved.
The seized red sandalwood is estimated to be worth around Rs.20 lakhs. The in-charge Task Force District SP, L. Subbarayudu, IPS, commended the Tirupati Task Force team for their diligent efforts. Congratulations were extended to Tirupati Task Force SP P. Srinivas, DSP MD Sharif, RI Chiranjeevi, Inspector M. Suresh Kumar, RSI Naresh, and other staff members for their outstanding performance in solving this case.
