Karnataka, Udupi: In a chilling act of retaliation, a 50-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Badagabettu, identified as Abubkar, narrowly escaped a brutal murder attempt late Thursday night near Athradi. The attack is believed to be in revenge for the murder of Suhas Shetty (30) that occurred earlier that day in Bajpe, Mangaluru.
According to Udupi SP Dr. Arun K., two men on a two-wheeler followed Abubkar and attempted to attack him with a sword and a bottle. Abubkar, who had been called out by his acquaintance Dinesh for a ride around 11:15 PM, noticed the assailants pursuing him near a petrol station in Athradi. Despite their attempts to stop him, Abubkar continued driving and overheard one attacker speaking in Tulu, instructing the other to kill him. Fearing for his life, he drove toward Shedigudde but was eventually cornered. One of the attackers slashed him on the head with a sword, while the other smashed the auto’s windshield with a bottle. Abubkar managed to escape by leaping over a compound wall and later filed a complaint at Hiriyadka police station.
The police investigation confirmed that the assault was an act of revenge linked to Suhas Shetty’s murder. Two suspects, Sandesh (31) of Bommarabettu and Sushant (32) of Bapuji Darkas in Hiriyadka, have been arrested and taken into custody. They will be produced before the court soon. Further investigation is underway.
