Kolkata: Yesterday at about 11.00 am, Sergeant Somnath Majumdar of Ultadanga Traffic Guard was on duty at Ultadanga crossing when a young lady came up to him, in tears. The Delhi University entrance exam was scheduled to begin at 12.30 pm at an examination center on Kalyani Expressway, and she had to be there by 12.00 noon. She had been waiting for a bus for an hour, in vain. Needless to say, her academic future depended on her being able to take the examination.
Without wasting a single moment, Sgt Majumder instructed home guard Krishna Kumar Kundu to drive the young lady to the center on his motorbike, which enabled her to reach her destination well in time. Having successfully taken the exam, she has conveyed her wholehearted gratitude to Kolkata Police for the timely help.
