Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, October 19: The Srikakulam District Police Department is set to observe Police Martyrs’ Commemoration Week from October 21 to 31, honoring the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. District Superintendent of Police Sri K.V. Maheshwara Reddy, I.P.S., announced that the department has made extensive arrangements to organize the events in a grand and meaningful manner across all police stations in the district.
Speaking about the initiative, SP Maheshwara Reddy stated that the commemorations aim to honor the immortal heroes of the police force, whose sacrifices ensured peace, justice, and security in society. The events also seek to create public awareness about the crucial role of police in maintaining law and order, combating anti-social elements, and safeguarding citizens’ rights.
Highlights of the Commemoration Week
Remembrance Day Ceremony (October 21)
The week will begin with the Police Martyrs’ Remembrance Day on October 21 at the District Police Office. A special memorial parade will be held at the Police Martyrs’ Pillar, under the supervision of SP Maheshwara Reddy, I.P.S. Tributes will be paid to the police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice while combating Maoists, terrorists, and other anti-social forces.
District officials, public representatives, and dignitaries will participate in the ceremony. Banners and flex displays will be erected near every police station and at key public places across the district in memory of the martyrs.
Open House Exhibitions (October 21–31)
A grand Open House Exhibition will be held at the District SP Office on October 21 and subsequently at the Police Kalyana Mandapam, Echerla, from October 22–31.
The exhibitions will display modern policing equipment, weapons, forensic and cyber tools, offering students and the public an opportunity to understand the evolving technology and preparedness of the police. Similar exhibitions will also be organized at the sub-divisional and circle levels.
Visits to Martyrs’ Native Villages (October 22–30)
Police teams led by DSPs and Circle Inspectors will visit the native villages of the martyred police personnel to pay floral tributes to their portraits and to meet their families.
During these visits, officers will present mementos, recall the brave services of the martyrs, and encourage local institutions to name schools, roads, or development projects in their honor. The visits are aimed at keeping alive the legacy of the fallen heroes in their communities.
Student Competitions (October 24–27)
To promote patriotism among youth, essay writing and oratory competitions will be held in schools and colleges across the district. These contests will be supervised by police officers and aim to encourage students to reflect on the sacrifices and values of the police service.
Patriotic Film Screenings (October 22–30)
Patriotic short films and documentaries showcasing the valor of police personnel and their fight against anti-social forces will be screened in open theaters in all three sub-divisions of the district.
Police Band Shows (October 28–30)
The district’s Police Band will perform patriotic tunes across various locations, inspiring unity and respect for the force’s sacrifices.
Sports, Marathon & Cultural Events (October 22–30)
As part of the celebrations, sports tournaments, marathon runs, and cultural programs will be conducted by the District Armed Reserve Police to foster camaraderie, fitness, and community engagement.
Medical & Blood Donation Camps (October 21–31)
In honor of the martyrs, blood donation and medical camps will be organized across all sub-divisions. A special medical camp for police families will be held on October 28 at the District Police Office.
Seminars & Lectures (October 29)
Senior police officers, including DSPs and CIs, will conduct seminars and guest lectures highlighting the sacrifices, discipline, and courage of the police force, motivating personnel and citizens alike.
Felicitation Ceremony (October 30)
The Police Department will felicitate family members of martyred officers who have achieved special accomplishments in education, service, or social work. Their achievements will be recognized as a tribute to the values passed down by the fallen heroes.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (October 31)
The commemoration week will conclude with Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations. Events will include a “Run for Unity” in the morning and a Candlelight Rally in the evening, symbolizing solidarity and remembrance.
SP K.V. Maheshwara Reddy, I.P.S., expressed that these programs are a heartfelt tribute to the courage, discipline, and unwavering service of police martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s safety and integrity.
