Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a major operation to protect students from narcotics and banned substances, the Tirunelveli Range Police conducted a coordinated anti-drug raid across four districts yesterday morning (12.01.2026), following the orders of Tirunelveli Range Deputy Inspector General of Police P. Saravanan, IPS.
Police teams simultaneously inspected 476 shops located near schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. During the raid, approximately 31 kg of banned tobacco products were seized, and 30 cases were registered across the districts. Necessary legal action is being taken against the offenders.
Additionally, steps are underway to seal six shops that were found selling banned tobacco products, in coordination with the concerned departments.
Deputy Inspector General of Police P. Saravanan, IPS, issued a strong warning that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in the sale of banned or harmful substances in society. He also emphasized the police department’s ongoing commitment to preventing narcotic influence among students and youth.
To support these efforts, the public has been encouraged to report information regarding drug or tobacco abuse using the Tamil Nadu Government’s DRUG FREE TAMILNADU toll-free mobile app. The app allows citizens to share information anonymously, without revealing their identity.
The anti-drug enforcement drive has been widely appreciated for its preventive approach and its commitment to safeguarding the younger generation from addiction-related threats.
