Madurai, Tamil Nadu: Highlighting the pride and greatness of the Tamil language, World Mother Language Day was observed with solemnity at the Madurai City Police Commissioner’s Office on Friday.
Tamil, celebrated worldwide for its antiquity and richness, was eloquently praised by renowned poet Pavendhar Bharathidasan, who wrote, “Tamil is the name of the world – that sweet Tamil is the life of our life.” Reflecting this spirit, the city police organized a pledge-taking ceremony to reaffirm their commitment to preserving and promoting the mother tongue.
The event was presided over by Madurai City Police Commissioner Dr. J. Loganathan, I.P.S, who led the gathering in taking a pledge to safeguard and uphold the dignity of the Tamil language. He emphasized the importance of respecting one’s mother tongue as a foundation of cultural identity and social harmony.
Senior officers, including Deputy Commissioners of Police and Special Police Force Commanders, along with ministerial staff, participated in the programme. Several officers shared their views on the significance of World Mother Language Day and stressed the role of public servants in preserving linguistic heritage.
The observance reflected the Madurai City Police’s dedication not only to maintaining law and order but also to promoting cultural values and linguistic pride within the community.
