Tinsukia, Assam: In a continued crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, Tinsukia Police carried out a successful anti-narcotics operation near the Tirap Colliery–Ledo Bagan area, leading to the apprehension of two suspected drug peddlers and the seizure of suspected heroin along with other incriminating materials.
According to police sources, the operation was launched on May 28 based on specific and credible intelligence inputs regarding suspected drug-related activities in the area. Acting swiftly on the information, a police team conducted a targeted raid while adhering to all prescribed legal procedures.
During the operation, law enforcement personnel intercepted and detained two individuals suspected of being involved in the illicit drug trade. A thorough search led to the recovery of eight containers containing suspected heroin, weighing a total of 4.76 grams.
In addition to the suspected narcotics, police also seized one mobile handset, one insulin syringe, and ₹3,500 in cash, which are believed to be linked to the alleged drug trafficking activities.
The arrested individuals have been taken into custody for further interrogation, and investigators are working to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the seized contraband. Authorities are also examining possible links to wider drug trafficking operations in the region.
Tinsukia Police stated that further legal proceedings have been initiated under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the investigation is ongoing.
The latest seizure underscores the Assam Police’s sustained efforts to combat the menace of narcotics and curb the spread of drug-related crimes across the state. Police officials have reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations and taking stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
