Tinsukia, Assam: In a significant development in the ongoing crackdown against the support network of the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) [ULFA-I], Tinsukia Police apprehended two youths from the Pengeri area of the district for their alleged links with the organisation. The detainees have been identified as Dulav Moraan and Rongat Moraan, both residents of Nalani village under Tinsukia district.
According to police sources, the two individuals were allegedly working as linkmen for ULFA (I), facilitating communication between the insurgent outfit and its local contacts. Investigators further suspect that the duo was preparing to join the organisation. The arrests were made during a special operation conducted by Tinsukia Police following specific intelligence inputs regarding their alleged activities. Both suspects are currently being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police officials stated that the operation forms part of a wider campaign to dismantle the support network of the banned outfit in Upper Assam. Over the past week, law enforcement agencies have reportedly arrested 12 suspected linkmen from various locations across Assam and other states in connection with alleged links to ULFA (I). Officials claimed that the sustained operations have dealt a major blow to the outfit’s network operating in the region and have helped identify key channels of communication and support.
Meanwhile, investigations are continuing to ascertain the full extent of the network and identify other individuals who may have been associated with the organisation. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance and preventing any attempt to revive militant activities in the state.
