Cyberabad, Telangana: Indian School of Business (ISB) and Harvard Business Publishing (HBP), through Harvard Business Impact, has published a case study titled “Operational Excellence in Crisis: Transforming Business Continuity in Cyberabad IT Corridor.” It was co-authored by Prof. Vijaya Sunder M (ISB), Sri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS (Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad; former Commissioner, Cyberabad), and Ms. Diti Joshi.
Prof. Vijaya Sunder M is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management (Practice) and Programme Director of ISB Executive Education: Operational Excellence for Leaders Programme. He also serves on the advisory board of ISB’s Executive Fellow Programme in Management and Executive Education.
To mark the publication, Sri V.C. Sajjanar and Dr. Krishna Yedula (Sr. VP, Virtusa; former Secretary General, SCSC) met with the core SCSC COVID team on 8 August to recognize members and volunteers who worked with Cyberabad Police, government departments, healthcare institutions and industry during the pandemic.
What the case study documents:
– Under Sri V.C. Sajjanar’s leadership, Cyberabad Police coordinated with SCSC, government, industry and healthcare bodies to transition nearly 800,000 IT/ITES employees to Work from Home within days of the pandemic onset.
– This enabled continuity of operations across IT, ITES, Pharma, BFSI, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail and Telecom sectors.
– SCSC, coordinated by Dr. Krishna Yedula, ran a COVID Response and Business Continuity framework covering movement permissions for essential staff, CXO engagement, government advisory dissemination, and workplace safety support.
Humanitarian efforts alongside business continuity:
– SCSC COVID Control Room, Oxygen Bank and Oxygen Care Centre
– Plasma donation drives
– A single-day vaccination camp at HITEX covering ~38,000 citizens
– Distribution of food, PPE, medicines and equipment
– Support for frontline police and healthcare workers, migrant workers, and affected families
Relevance: The case study is presented as a model of public-private partnership in crisis management and is expected to be referenced by governments, business schools and crisis management professionals.
