Wayanad: In honor of the International Day of Older Persons, the Wayanad District Police and Janmaitri Police jointly organized a series of legal awareness classes and home visits at various locations across the district. These initiatives were designed to raise awareness of the rights and legal protections available to senior citizens, as well as to foster a sense of community care and support for the elderly.

On Tuesday, October 1, significant events were held at two key venues: Bathery Kottakunn Senior Citizens Park and Kanyampatta Vriddha Sadan. The legal awareness sessions at both venues saw active participation from senior citizens and local community members. The events were presided over by Bathery District Janmaitri Police Assistant Nodal Officer K.M. Sasidharan, who emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of the elderly and ensuring their dignity and safety within society.

The Bathery Station Inspector, S.N. Ajeesh Kumar, led the legal awareness classes, providing valuable insights into the various legal provisions available to safeguard the elderly. He covered a range of topics including elder abuse, property rights, and welfare schemes designed to benefit senior citizens. His session was both informative and interactive, with many elderly participants raising questions and seeking clarifications on legal issues relevant to their daily lives.

In addition, SPC Assistant Nodal Officer K. Mohandas took the lead in administering an oath to the participants, reaffirming their commitment to supporting and caring for the elderly in the community. DCRC Councilor Anila V. Abraham also played a pivotal role in conducting educational sessions, offering detailed explanations on government welfare programs and how the elderly can access these services effectively.

The program was further enriched by the participation of key community figures. Janamaithri Samiti member Prabhakaran Nair delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event and emphasizing the collaborative efforts between the police and the community in promoting the well-being of senior citizens. Ramakrishnan, Mohandas, Abdul Ghafoor, and Vilasini Teacher also offered their greetings and shared messages of support, underscoring the importance of societal involvement in elder care.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Senior Civil Police Officer T.K. Deepa, who expressed gratitude to all participants, organizers, and community members for their involvement in making the program a success. Overall, the initiative highlighted the Wayanad District Police’s commitment to promoting legal literacy and ensuring the safety and well-being of the elderly population within the district.
