Mohali: Mohali District traffic police, in collaboration with their counterparts from Haryana and Delhi, facilitated the transportation of a liver to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi and a kidney to Max Hospital in Phase-6 by establishing a 246 km green corridor. Additionally, an 8.1 km corridor was set up to swiftly transport the kidney to Max Hospital within 10 minutes.
Both corridors were activated at approximately 9:30 am, with around 50 traffic officers deployed to ensure smooth passage and timely delivery of the organs. Mohali authorities promptly notified their Haryana counterparts upon the departure of the liver-bound ambulance from Fortis Hospital. Maintaining a minimum speed of 60 km/h, the ambulance received uninterrupted passage until Dera Bassi, where Haryana Police took over. Fortis Hospital’s medical director had earlier communicated the transport details to Mohali SSP, emphasizing the delicate nature of the operation and the need for adherence to the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994.
To safeguard the organs, they were stored in sealed boxes containing HTK solution, ensuring safety and preventing exposure to X-rays. This marked the fourth instance in the past year where police facilitated organ transportation, underscoring Mohali police’s commitment to life-saving endeavors. SP Traffic Harinder Singh Maan affirmed the department’s dedication to ensuring the safe and timely delivery of vital organs, emphasizing the importance of prompt ambulance arrival at the designated hospitals.
