BENGALURU: Mr R K Dutta has been as the next Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP), the Karnataka government said on Friday. Karnataka issued an order appointing the 1981-batch IPS officer. Incumbent DG&IGP Omprakash’s tenure will end on January 31. Dutta is currently on central deputation. Mr. Dutta will have a nine-month tenure as he is set to retire in October this year. He has worked as Additional Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Additional Director General of Police in Lokayukta. Among the IPS officers he is the senior most officer to be shortlisted for the top job in the police department. The Supreme Court had quashed the allegations made against Dutta, a Karnataka Cadre officer. Mr Dutta completed his Law graduation from a private college in 2009.
