Mumbai: On April 1, officials reported that a Swedish national, identified as 63-year-old Klas Erik Harald Jonasm, had been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly molesting a cabin crew member aboard an IndiGo flight from Bangkok. According to reports, the incident occurred during the flight when the accused, who was a passenger, inappropriately touched the crew member. The airline staff informed the Mumbai police upon landing at Mumbai Airport on Thursday, and the accused was taken into custody.
The accused was produced before the Andheri court on Friday, where he was granted bail after a charge sheet was filed by the police. Officials have confirmed that further investigations into the matter are underway. This incident marks the eighth instance of an unruly airline passenger being arrested in India over the past three months, highlighting the growing issue of passenger misconduct.
Earlier in the month, on March 23, Mumbai’s Sahar Police booked two IndiGo passengers for misbehaving with the crew while intoxicated. The passengers, identified as Dattatreya Bapardekar and John George D’Souza, were flying from Dubai to Mumbai when they began drinking alcohol on the flight. When the cabin crew informed them about the ban on drinking alcohol inside the flight, both the accused got infuriated and started misbehaving with the crew, resulting in their arrest.
The incidents underscore the need for stricter measures to curb passenger misconduct and ensure the safety and security of airline staff and passengers.
