Udupi, Karnataka: Udupi District Police has introduced advanced “Speed Radar Cameras” at six strategic locations on the National Highway to curb speeding and traffic violations across the district. The high-tech monitoring system officially became operational today.
According to police, the radar cameras have been installed at Karkala–Doopadakatte, Padubidri–Uchila, Kaup–Dandatirtha, Kota–Thekkatte, Gangolli–Trasi, and Byndoor–Nayakana Katte with prescribed speed limits ranging from 60 kmph to 80 kmph.
Apart from detecting over-speeding, the cameras will also identify violations such as triple riding, helmet violations, not wearing seat belts, using mobile phones while driving, wrong-side driving, and other traffic offences.
Police stated that the cameras are directly linked to the District Police Control Room, where vehicle movements will be monitored round the clock. Upon detection of violations, digital evidence-based challans will be generated and sent directly to vehicle owners by post. Motorists have been instructed to pay the fines at any police station in the district within seven days of receiving the challan.
The initiative has been launched under the road safety message “Safe Drive – Save Life,” with police urging the public to cooperate in making Udupi district safer and accident-free.
