Kamrup: The Hajo Police of Assam nabbed two gamblers for illegal betting related to the Indian Premier League on Wednesday based on inputs about the gamblers establishing a large network of illegal betting on the IPL across the Hajo town of the Kamrup district of Assam.
During the operation the officials seized three mobile phones along with Rs.20,000 in cash from the duo and a luxurious four-wheeler from the accused gamblers were also seized. The two accused are identified as Salimuddin, a resident of Santali, and the other one as Kalam Hussain of Kasomari.
Earlier on Tuesday, the authorities in Assam’s Tamarhat initiated a crackdown against illegal betting activities related to the IPL where three individuals involved in IPL betting were apprehended by the law enforcement authories.
The apprehended individuals were identified as Joynal Sheikh, Imran Sheikh and Usman Ghani alias Firoz. They were all nabbed by the officials from Hatidhura Market, a famous hub for such illicit activities. The advent of the IPL has seen a sudden sharp rise of illegal betting activities in the region.
