Dibrugarh, Assam: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Dibrugarh Police conducted an extensive anti-narcotics operation near the Railway Colony area, leading to the arrest of 10 persons allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhijit Gaurav Dilip, the operation resulted in the seizure of 79.55 grams of suspected heroin contained in eight separate containers. Police also recovered a substantial quantity of drug paraphernalia, including 300 insulin syringes, indicating large-scale narcotics consumption and distribution activities in the area.

The raid led to the recovery of cash amounting to Rs 4,92,710, suspected to be proceeds from the drug trade. A Vivo mobile handset was also seized during the operation.
In addition, police confiscated four vehicles allegedly used in drug-related activities. These include a Renault Kwid (AS06V9050), a Toyota Glanza (AS06AN7929), an NTORQ 125 scooter (AS06AN1573), and a Jupiter scooter (AS06Z8276).
Investigators also recovered several ornaments suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from narcotics trafficking. The seized items include multiple gold earrings, a gold chain, a gold finger ring, and a five-gram silver coin.
The SSP stated that several additional names have emerged during the interrogation of the arrested individuals, and efforts are underway to apprehend other suspects linked to the network. The operation is continuing.
Highlighting the need for long-term measures, the police have written to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Tinsukia, seeking the eviction of illegally settled occupants from Railway land in the area. Officials believe that dismantling the illegal settlements that allegedly serve as hubs for drug-related activities is crucial to preventing the re-establishment of the narcotics network.
Local residents and observers have welcomed the move, stating that sustained action, including the proposed eviction drive, is essential to ensuring that the area does not revert to being a centre of drug trafficking after the police operation.
The latest crackdown is being viewed as one of the most significant anti-drug operations conducted in Dibrugarh in recent months and underscores the district police’s continued commitment to combating the menace of narcotics.
