Dibrugarh, Assam: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal narcotics trade, Dibrugarh Police conducted a series of successful anti-drug operations over the past two days, leading to the arrest of three alleged drug peddlers and the seizure of suspected cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and cash.
In the first operation, a team led by the Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (CDSP), Naharkatia, along with the Officer-in-Charge of Joypur Police Station and other personnel, carried out a raid at the residence and premises of suspected drug peddler Suraj Jaswal alias Md. Siraj Ahmed, son of Late Ratan Jaswal, a resident of Tatipathar under Joypur Police Station in Dibrugarh district.
During the search operation, police recovered 410 grams of cannabis (ganja), three used drug syringes from a white Hyundai Verna bearing registration number AS-01-AH-0050, and cash amounting to ₹1,96,100, suspected to be linked to illegal drug trade activities.
In a separate operation, police apprehended another alleged drug peddler, Naushad Ali, from the Amalapatty area. Further investigation into the case is underway.
Meanwhile, acting on credible intelligence inputs, police conducted another raid at No. 2 Dikhari in Moran on Thursday evening. During the operation, police seized 308 grams of suspected cannabis (ganja) from the possession of Pankaj Dutta (33), son of Arup Dutta and a resident of Natun Nagar, Moran.
The accused was taken into custody and the seized contraband was recovered following legal procedures.
Dibrugarh Police stated that anti-narcotics operations will continue with renewed intensity across the district to curb the menace of drug trafficking and ensure a safer society. Further investigations are in progress in all three cases.
