The stolen vehicle was spotted parked near ESI Hospital but the number plate was changed to a Delhi number. A team of six police officers, four from the Outer district: Head constables Mr.Manoj and Mr.Jaswant, and Constables Mr.Virender and Mr.Satpal, and two from Vivek Vihar police station: Constables Mr.Devender and Mr.Puneet, laid a trap near the car. All the police officers were in plain-clothes. Ms. Prasad said that around 3.15 a.m., three persons came in a white SUV and stopped the car near the stolen SUV. The two of them stepped out of the car and walked towards the stolen car while the third remained in the car they had come in. The DCP said that Noor took the driver’s seat in the stolen car and Ravi was just about to get in the passenger’s seat when the police asked them to surrender. Ravi was overpowered by the officers. He had a loaded country-made pistol. Meanwhile, the accused in the other car allegedly fired upon the police party and managed to escape. Simultaneously, Noor tried to speed away and allegedly tried to run the vehicle over the police officers. Ms. Prasad said that in self-defence and to stop them from running away, two officers fired four gunshots in the direction of the stolen car. Around 100 metres ahead, the car jumped the pavement and rammed the boundary wall of the hospital. Noor was found injured with a bullet wound on the left side of his chest. He was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The DCP said that during interrogation, Ravi told the police that they were in Delhi for the last few days. They stole the vehicle on Monday and the idea was to temporarily keep it in Vivek Vihar. They were to dispose off the vehicle somewhere else at the earliest. The police said that Noor’s family members in Jaipur have been informed. A search is on for the third accused. A case has been filed on charges of causing hurt and wrongful restrain against the deceased in Jaipur. Other involvements are being checked, said Ms. Prasad.
