Hyderabad, Telangana: In a constructive outreach initiative, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone) held an interactive meeting with members of the transgender community to address welfare concerns, livelihood opportunities, and public order issues. The meeting, conducted at the DCP North Zone Office, was attended by around 25 transgender persons from the area.
During the interaction, community members shared challenges related to social acceptance, limited employment opportunities, non-availability of identity cards, and delays in obtaining transgender certificates, which affect access to government welfare schemes. Public concerns regarding nuisance and alleged extortion during social functions were also discussed in an open and transparent manner.
The DCP assured the participants that their genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments to facilitate welfare measures, rehabilitation, and timely access to benefits. Emphasizing empowerment, the DCP encouraged skill development, self-employment, and adoption of dignified and lawful livelihood options to ensure social inclusion and economic stability.
At the same time, the police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public order and advised against intimidation or unlawful activities, cautioning that legal action would be taken against any violations. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with assurances of continued dialogue, mutual cooperation, protection of rights and dignity, and sustained efforts by the police to build trust and harmony within the community.
